Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
United Way of the EUP works closely with students and staff from Lake Superior State University's Lukenda School of Business to bring an opportunity for assistance in online filing of annual tax returns for low-income individuals/families and senior citizens. United Way EUP staff help schedule appointments beginning in January each year and extending to the federal filing deadline in April.
Those interested may call our office beginning the first full week of January. Appointments are limited and scheduled on a first come, first served basis.
Students are trained through the Internal Revenue Service's VITA program and are knowledgeable only in helping to submit standard returns. Anyone filing a return with complicated or out-of-the-ordinary circumstances should seek assistance through a knowledgeable tax professional.

United Way also recommends the website www.myfreetaxes.com for anyone with a household income of $60,000 or less. Households may file their own online tax returns for free through this service, brought to our region through a partnership between United Way's and H&R Block.
